Not only is it important at Sprout Ag to be growing our clients; but it’s just as important to be growing our people also. This month in the spotlight is our Alister, our Partner from Albury NSW
What is something you learned in the last week?
That I don’t know everything
What does a typical day at Sprout Ag look like for you?
Coffee, Phone calls, travelling across the region, more phone calls meeting with clients on farm.
How do you balance your career and family?
I travel a lot for work, regardless of distance I try to get back home the same day rather than stay overnight. If I get home late at night, I will make sure I spend extra time with the kids the next morning, take them to school or take them for their favourite babycinos ! or give my wife a chance to go to the gym or something without the kids.
What would you do (for a career) if you weren’t doing this?
I have been in banking and finance and working with family businesses pretty much since finishing University, so it is hard to picture myself in another career. Possibly teaching or University lecturer for business students.
What drew you to Sprout Ag?
Unlike working for a large bank whereby you are constantly in conflict trying to balance the needs of your employer (the bank) and your clients, Sproutag is completely independent. We work solely for the client and can provide completely unbiased advice. There is no corporate BS or distractions in our organisation. Our complete focus is on helping clients grow their businesses.
If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?
I was born with the innate ability to instantly fall off a surf, skate or snow board. I would love to be able to do either of these.
If you could choose anyone, who would you pick as your mentor?
Older people like Warren Buffett who have a life time of wisdom and smarts to share.
What are 3 words you’d use to describe Sprout Ag?
Independent, professional and fair-dinkum.
Where is your favourite place to be?
Somewhere in the mountains, trout fishing on the Big River between Mitta and Omeo.
Where is the best place you’ve travelled and why?
Alaska, so vast and wild and amazing scenery.
What’s the weirdest job/business request you’ve had?
Typically we deal with mainstream broad acre, mixed farming or intensive agricultural industries and the ag supply chain. Every now and then those unique cottage industry type requests come through Like Truffle Farms, Deer farms, Emus etc. Needless to say I have never gone any further with those requests.
